RAW TV
Southeastern's RAW TV, is a live, student-produced, television talk show that targets young adults. The mission of RAW TV, whose acronym stands for "Real And Willing," is to openly discuss relevant issues and topics with its guests.
RAW TV gives Southeastern students the opportunity to experience the real world on campus. Students are heavily involved in the show's production from scheduling talent to directing, running cameras, editing, and hosting. A new crew is chosen every one to two years, which allows approximately 20 to 30 students to be involved with RAW TV during a school year.
Formerly known as The Real Deal, the show was created by Southeastern alumnus Lon Jordan. Jordan desired to see more positive shows on television. His dream was to produce top-quality entertainment through a talk show for young adults aged 18 to 25. Jordan produced and hosted the show for two-and-a-half years and decided that since he would soon graduate, he would pass the torch to student James Walls. Walls then took the show in the spring of 2006 and continued Jordan's creation, adding a few alterations.
After the spring of 2006, Walls changed the name of the show to RAW TV. Walls believed that this dying generation is searching for something "Real," and the only way for the generation to find it is if someone is "Willing" to share the truth. RAW TV addresses topics that grip youths, such as drugs, relationships, career choices, and media.
Walls continued hosting and producing RAW TV until the fall of 2006. He then passed the torch to then-associate producer and student Caleb Kinchlow. As the new host and producer of the show, Kinchlow went in search of a co-host; he found two: students Sarah J. Alessi and Corrie Goldsmith. They all began their first season in the spring of 2007.
As RAW TV continued to progress, Walls began to meet up with a few networks in search of a new show for younger adults. As a result of the network shopping, John Pierce, the advisor and chair of Southeastern's communication department, received a phone call from two major networks. Pierce then teamed up with Southeastern for greater financial support, which enabled RAW TV to sign with the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Network. In September 2007, the show began appearing nationwide on NRB via satellite television. |
