10.08.08 By Southeastern University With an enrollment record for the tenth consecutive year, Southeastern is not only educating this year's 3,075 students, but teaching them to serve with love. On September 20, Southeastern students performed community outreach in an event called the Big Give. About 650 students packed food at Agape Food Bank, cleaned up neighborhoods surrounding Southeastern, washed cars, distributed bottled water around Lake Hollingsworth, and performed other free tasks in Lakeland, Florida. The students finished the day by hosting a community carnival, which drew roughly 700 people and included a dunk tank, concert, clowns, fireworks, and other attractions. During the carnival, students sported shirts that read "Serve one another in love," part of a Bible verse that comes from the book of Galatians. In addition to the Big Give, the start of school was marked by a Southeastern tradition called the "Super Seven" in which Student Life sponsors an event every day to get new and returning students excited about the new year. This year's Super Seven included a block party, a unique worship service called Hunger & Thirst, our first chapel of the school year, our own version of Saturday Night Live, called "Thursday Night Live," and many more exciting events. |
