By Southeastern University

Southeastern opened the new school year with a dedication and ribbon cutting of its new College of Business & Legal Studies and College of Education building on September 18. About 250 people attended the event, including Bill Mutz, president of Lakeland (Fla.) Automall, and Charlie Aguirre, assistant to Senator Mel Martinez of Florida
.
Dr. James L. Davis, Southeastern's vice president of development, opened the dedication by welcoming the guests and "giving God thanks for the wonderful building."

Southeastern President Dr. Mark Rutland acknowledged the many people and companies that shared his vision for the building and helped make it possible. He spoke of the growth on campus, which included building, spiritual, and enrollment growth. He also shared a goal he had when he first arrived at Southeastern. "From 1999 to 2009, we wanted to double the size of enrollment," Dr. Rutland said. "Today, we have surpassed that number."

Mutz, one of many local leaders who have supported Southeastern, congratulated those gathered. Referring to the outstanding growth at the university, Mutz, the guest speaker said, "isn't it wonderful to celebrate the fruits of others?" He called Southeastern, "a transformed center of learning."

The dedication included a prayer that "God's spirit and favor would grow abundantly at Southeastern University."

Southeastern, Dr. Davis said, will continue to follow in God's plan and provide the best Christian environment and "quality education for our students."
