04.11.08 By Southeastern University Starting this fall, entering freshmen can earn a new scholarship that will cover nearly half of tuition at Southeastern University. High school seniors and graduates with high standardized test scores--or a combination of a high grade point average and strong scores on standardized tests--can earn up to $6,000 towards their first year of full-time study. This Regent's Scholars award is among new scholarships designed to attract more students to the university. Southeastern determines which students are eligible to receive its academic scholarships through a point system. Students earn points for their GPA and performance on the SAT or ACT. Students can earn up to five points for their GPA and up to 15 points for top scores on standardized tests. Students must earn 12 points or more on Southeastern's Academic Scholars Point System to qualify for the Regent's Scholars award. Freshmen who receive the scholarship for the 2008-2009 school year may receive the award for eight semesters if they maintain a GPA of 3.6 or higher. Entering freshmen who earn six to 11 points on the Academic Scholars Point System qualify for other renewable scholarships that provide $2,000 to $4,000 towards full-time study at Southeastern. In addition to the new Regent's Scholars award, Southeastern will provide a new, $1,000 scholarship for entering freshmen from states outside of Florida. Students who start during the 2008-2009 school year may receive this new scholarship--called the Travel Grant--for up to eight semesters. To receive academic scholarships--including the Regent's Scholars award--or the Travel Grant, students must apply for admission by May 30 for the fall semester or November 1 for the spring semester.
