Ministry and More
Sometimes a little indecision is a good thing. Many students who choose our interdisciplinary studies major feel a pull towards full-time ministry, but are unsure of exactly where that call will lead—perhaps attending seminary, working as a Christian business manager or pursuing a master's degree in counseling. This major is ideal for students who want to spend their college years studying God's Word while expanding their knowledge of other academic disciplines. By graduation, you'll be ready to answer multiple calls, whether in ministry, academia or a professional career.

Custom Curriculum
Southeastern's interdisciplinary studies program begins with our Christ-centered liberal arts (general education) core curriculum, where you develop an understanding and appreciation of God and His creation, human creativity and reason, and our place of responsibility as stewards in the world God has made. As you forge links between what you've studied in the core and the more specialized courses in your fields of study, our hope is that you also begin to relate all that you learn to your life and your faith.

Our interdisciplinary studies majors take the same core of religion classes as our practical theology and Christian ministries majors. That core includes interpreting scripture, preaching and surveying the Old and New Testaments. For general electives, we challenge our interdisciplinary students to study a foreign language. Seminary-bound students often choose Greek or Hebrew, while more liberal arts- or missions-minded students usually learn Spanish or French. The remaining degree requirements are up to you. Pick any additional major or two minors from any program offered at the university that will complement your interests and calling. A few popular second majors include business, communications, English, or psychology. Depending on what they've studied, students leave our campus to pursue graduate studies or jump right into the workforce, ready to serve as a positive witness for Christ.

A Scholar for Life
Interdisciplinary studies is a major for serious scholars who seek wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Many of our interdisciplinary studies students pursue further theological studies after they leave Southeastern. Our alumni have a high acceptance rate at prestigious seminaries and graduate schools, including Duke, Emory, Fuller, Gordon-Conwell, Harvard, Princeton, Yale and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Once they arrive at these schools, students find they are well prepared for advanced studies. Careers pursed by our interdisciplinary studies alumni include:

  • pastor
  • professor
  • music minister
  • business professional
  • missionary
  • counselor
