Student Organizations
Has God given you a gift for leadership or an intense interest in a profession or pastime? Use your talents and interests to grow and minister to others. Here are the Student Life-sponsored student groups active at Southeastern:
Student Body Leadership Council (SBLC)
Their job is to speak for you. From a desire to extend curfew, to discontent about a new campus policy, the SBLC tells school officials about changes they would like to see at Southeastern. The SBLC also is charged with planning and facilitating activities to promote personal growth and fellowship among students. The 14-member SBLC includes the SBLC president, class presidents and the directors of SBLC committees. SBLC officers oversee the SBLC, and the committees organize and promote activities and community service projects. In addition to speaking for and serving students, SBLC members are mentored by Student Life staff as they fulfill their leadership roles on campus.
Mu Kappa International
Mu Kappa, a chapter of an international organization, ministers to students who are children of missionaries. It is a fellowship of MKs—a.k.a. missionary kids—who often must adjust or readjust to life in the United States. Mu Kappa connects first-year students with returning MKs and runs Bible studies. It also sponsors parties, particularly during holidays when many MKs can’t visit their families abroad.
Kappa Delta Pi
Members of this honor society for education majors strive to grow personally and professionally while ministering to the community. Group members volunteer and tutor in schools and recently held a storytelling program at Southeastern that was open to the public.
The Oracle
The Oracle, Southeastern University’s literary magazine, is published each spring and includes poetry, prose, artwork, and a CD of music and spoken word selections. The leaders, staff, and supporters of The Oracle present art as a way to worship God, both on campus and in the Lakeland community. In addition to publishing an annual literary magazine, The Oracle sponsors open mics/poetry slams throughout the year.
Social Work Club
This club invites local social workers to discuss the social work profession and raise awareness about the field. The group sponsors Social Work Awareness Week on campus.
Lifesigns American Sign Language Club
This club witnesses to hearing and deaf communities. Club members also teach American Sign Language in campus workshops.
LINCs
LINCs are upperclassman women who assist Resident Assistants in creating a sense of community in upperclassman women residence halls. LINCs, or Leaders IN Community, organize Bible studies, barbecues, other activities and trips.
College Republicans
This group, a local chapter of a national organization, promotes political discourse and conservative political values. College Republicans also encourage local activism and participation in political campaigns.
Ner Tamid
This group, whose Hebrew name means "Eternal Light," promotes Jewish culture on campus. Ner Tamid seeks to inform students who want to learn about the Jewish roots of the Christian faith or witness to Jewish people. The club’s activities include celebrating Jewish holidays, hosting speakers and teaching traditional Israeli dance.
Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE)
This organization is dedicated to guiding budding entrepreneurs into community service projects focused on entrepreneurship, market economics, success skills, financial literacy, and business ethics. The efforts of SIFE help struggling business owners, low-income families, and children. Projects are presented annually at regional, national, and international competitions.
fX Ministries
fX Ministries is a percussion ensemble that performs on instruments made from common objects. The group performs street theatre both on and off campus. Proceeds from stage shows sponsor the team’s missionary trips.
Psi Chi
Psi Chi is a national honor society that promotes the study of psychology. Psi Chi membership is a great way to prepare for graduate school and future employment. It is open to anyone pursuing a psychology major or minor who holds at least a 3.0 GPA and has completed three semesters of college, including nine credit hours of psychology courses.
Student Missions Association
Have a burden for the nations and a passion for the lost? Join the Student Missions Association. SMA sponsors talks by missionaries, an annual international dinner and missions trips.
Delta Pi
Delta Pi is a group of upperclassman women who assist Resident Assistants by helping freshman women adjust to university life. These women encourage, instruct, mentor and disciple freshmen in spiritual growth, academics, personal needs, relationships and residence hall/campus issues.
Soul Food
This drama group performs student-written dramatic and comedic sketches that frequently address spiritual issues. The group’s often zany performances appeal to people of many ages.
The Unpland Improv
The Unpland Improv is Southeastern’s student improvised comedy troupe. It strives to provide clean and clever entertainment to the Southeastern community while raising awareness about the process of improv.
Christian Surfers
This group, a local chapter of a national organization, is a fellowship of Christian surfers. Southeastern’s chapter meets on Saturdays to surf and worship on Florida beaches. The group also participates in surf contests in which members hand out water and Bibles as they befriend and witness to members of the surfing community.

This group promotes cultural diversity at Southeastern. Naming itself after the Spanish word for “connections,” the group seeks to unite people of all cultures on campus.
