WHAT IS INTERLIBRARY LOAN SERVICE?
Can’t find what you need at Southeastern’s Steelman Library? Well, you’re in luck. Interlibrary loan enables users to obtain research materials that are not available at Steelman.

WHO CAN USE IT?
Current Southeastern University faculty, staff, and students

HOW DO I USE IT?
When you can’t find an item you need in the library catalog, enter an online interlibrary loan request using one the following databases:

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Most materials ordered through interlibrary loan arrive within a week to two weeks; some could take longer, depending on the speed of the lending library.

COMPLETING THE INTERLIBRARY LOAN REQUEST FORM
Providing complete and accurate information on the request form helps reduce processing time. Abbreviations and incomplete or incorrect information on the request form delay the processing of a request. Including the citation number from an online search is especially helpful. For help in verifying a citation or translating abbreviations, ask a reference librarian.

WHAT WILL OTHER LIBRARIES LOAN?
Other libraries generally will loan material that they circulate to their own patrons. The following materials often are excluded: textbooks, reference books, course reserve books, rare books, microfilm, dissertations, technical reports or audiovisual material. Individual issues or bound volumes of periodicals are rarely loaned.

WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
Under conditions specified in the copyright law of the United States, libraries are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions states that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be 'used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.' If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of 'fair use,' that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would violate copyright law.

Note that copyright law prohibits the photocopying of a complete book or issue of a periodical. You may view the complete text of the Copyright Law in Title 17 of the U.S. Code.

NOTIFICATION and CHECKOUT?
When requested materials arrive, the interlibrary loan staff notifies requesters via their campus e-mail addresses.
