2009 season outlook Southeastern Coach Terry Thomas and the Lady Fire are excited about their historical 2009 season. Southeastern returns eight players from last year's team that won a school-record 30 games. NCCAA All-Americans Casey Jensen and Heather Johnson return this year, along with senior Stephanie Bower, who was a Second Team All-Region player in 2008. Jensen is a two-time NCCAA All-American and led the Lady Fire in attacking percentage at 23%. She was second on the team with 454 kills. Johnson led the Lady Fire with 469 kills while also totaling 515 digs. She was named a Second Team NCCAA II All-American in 2008. Bower was a Second Team All-Region selection in 2008 as she led Southeastern with 722 digs on the year. Also returning for her senior season is Kristen Ledlow, who had 185 kills, 30 solo blocks, and 61 digs in 2008. She is also one of four team captains for this season. Other returning Lady Fire players are juniors Joanna Rhodes, Lindsay Short, and Erika Retzsch. All of these players add valuable experience to this year's team. Sophomore Christine Dell also will be a major contributor this season after seeing considerable playing time as a freshman last season. Coach Thomas has also brought in four new players: Ruthie Glover, Lyndy Armstrong, Tara McSherley, and Samantha Pimental. All of these players are expected to play important roles in the upcoming 2009 campaign. Southeastern will host 11 games at home this season, including 10 home games versus Sun Conference opponents. There first home game of the year will be August 28 versus Ave Maria University at 7:00 p.m.
