2009 Season Review The 2009 season was once again a successful year for the Lady Fire as Head Coach Dominic Stross led SEU to a 16-6 record. It was the fifth straight season that the program won over 15 games. The Lady Fire also competed in the NAIA's Sun Conference this season and finished in sixth place in the conference with a 4-5 record. SEU defeated conference schools Warner University, Johnson & Wales University, Florida Memorial University, and Ave Maria University. Despite not qualifying for the Sun Conference Tournament, the Lady Fire turned their attention to the NCCAA. The 2009 season marked the final year where Southeastern could compete in the NCCAA's Division II level, and the Lady Fire once again dominated their region, going 8-0 on the year while outscoring their opponents 39-1. They also ended there stay in the NCCAA II South Region on a 29-game winning streak. Southeastern grabbed the NCCAA II National Tournament's No. 1 seed this season, and advanced to the NCCAA II National Championship game for the third time in school history. SEU defeated Kentucky Christian University, 6-0, in the opening round behind senior Melissa Kennedy's two goals. Alyssa Hunt added a goal and an assist. Next, Southeastern blanked Toccoa Falls College, 3-0, for the third time in the season. Kennedy scored all three goals for the Lady Fire as they advanced to the NCCAA II National Championship game. Unfortunately, Southeastern fell to Manhattan Christian College, 2-0, in the championship game and took second place nationally for the second straight year. Kennedy leaves Southeastern as the program's all-time leader in goals (97), assists (39) and points (233). Four other seniors will also leave the program this year; Heather Conner, Teressa Knab, Lauren Guiterrez, and Jamie Willis.
