Lady Fire Falls In National Championship Game

KISSIMMEE, Fla.--The Southeastern University women's soccer team fell to No. 1 seed Baptist Bible College, 1-0, in the NCCAA II National Championship game, Monday afternoon, at Austin-Tindall Regional Park in front of 500 Southeastern fans who traveled to the game.

Baptist Bible (Clarks Summit, Pa.) scored the only goal of the game just two minutes in as Jessica Pollock drilled a shot past Lady Fire goal keeper Jenna Bartholomew after finding the ball off of a corner kick.

"They played their style better than we played our style of soccer," said Southeastern Head Coach Dominic Stross.

Southeastern (16-4-1) outshot Baptist Bible 8-1 in the first half and had some good scoring chances.

Junior forward Teressa Knab nearly tied the game for the Lady Fire by lifting a shot high, but it hit the crossbar and deflected over the net at the 7:40 mark of the first half.

And then a bizarre play ended the first half, as Southeastern's Melody Ussery broke in on goal and appeared to score but could not put the ball in the net before the horn blew to end the first half. Southeastern fans cheered, believing the Lady Fire had tied the game, but the head referee indicated that the horn had been blown before Ussery scored, and Baptist Bible took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Defenders not only played keep away from Southeastern but actually outshot the Lady Fire also, 4-2.

Southeastern kept battling, but the Lady Defenders held the Southeastern offensive in check, heavily guarding Southeastern leading scorer Melissa Kennedy. Kennedy managed only three shots in the game.

The game was a rematch of the 2005 NCCAA II National Championship game, in which Baptist Bible prevailed 2-0, winning the school's first women's soccer national championship. The Lady Defenders have appeared in the NCCAA II National Championship game three out of the past four years.

However, Southeastern did not go home empty handed. Stross was named the 2008 NCCAA II National Coach of the Year, having led the Lady Fire to a 16-4-1 overall record.

"Overall we had a good season, we stepped up to beat some good teams," added Stross.
Beth Seitz, Jamie Willis, and Kennedy were all named NCCAA II First Team All-Americans. All three players were also named to the National All-Tournament Team. It was Seitz's fourth consecutive season to be named a First Team All-American and Kennedy's second consecutive season.

Southeastern's Heather Conner was named a Second Team All-American.

Lady Fire Advances To National Championship Game

KISSIMMEE, Fla.--The Southeastern University women's soccer team defeated No. 3 seed Maranatha Baptist Bible College 5-1, Saturday afternoon, to advance to the NCCAA II National Championship game for the second time in four years.

Melissa Kennedy once again stole the show for the Lady Fire, scoring a hat trick for the second consecutive game in the national tournament and recording her 32 goal of the 2008 season.

Kennedy scored her first goal just five minutes into the game on a pass from Heather Conner, giving the Lady Fire an early 1-0 lead.

Junior forward Teressa Knab then gave Southeastern a 2-0 lead at the 16:30 mark of the first half on an assist from Kennedy.

Then, at the 11:46 mark, Maranatha Baptist Bible's Melissa Nichols failed to convert on a penalty kick, giving Southeastern even more momentum. And the Lady Fire capitalized as Knab scored again, this time with just 45 seconds remaining in the half. The ball went in on a rebound in front of the net after Fire freshman Lindsay Millar was denied on two attempts by goalkeeper Melanie Killingsworth.

Southeastern went to the half with a 3-0 lead, having outshot Maranatha Baptist Bible 11-3 in the first half.

The Lady Crusaders then got the first goal of the second half when Nichols scored on a header in front of Lady Fire goalkeeper Jenna Bartholomew, making the score 3-1.

But Southeastern came right back just three minutes afterwards as Kennedy got her second goal of the game on an assist from Sabrina Ross.

Millar then set up Kennedy at the 24:50 mark of the second half to put the game away and send Southeastern on a collision course with a familiar foe in the national championship game, No. 1 seed Baptist Bible College.

"We beat an excellent, well-coached team," said Lady Fire Head Coach Dominic Stross.

Baptist Bible College defeated No. 4 seed Manhattan Christian College, 2-0, to advance to its third national title game in four years. The Lady Defenders won their only national championship back in 2005 against Southeastern, defeating the Lady Fire 2-0.

"We have two seniors who played in that national championship game, and we have come full circle since then," added Stross. "We were green that year, but now we have seasoned players with more experience."

Southeastern will battle Baptist Bible College for the NCCAA II National Championship Monday at 3:00 p.m.

Lady Fire Rolls in National Tournament Opener

KISSIMMEE, Fla.--The Southeastern University women's soccer team defeated North Central University, 5-0, Thursday afternoon in the first day of the 2008 NCCAA II National Tournament at Austin-Tindall Regional Park.

There was little doubt that Southeastern came ready to play. The Lady Fire jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Sabrina Ross scored on a pass from Lindsay Millar.

Melissa Kennedy then followed at the 12 minute mark on a pass from Heather Conner, making the game 2-0. Kennedy would score the hat trick on the game and net her 30th goal of the season.

Then, Lake Gibson graduate Jamie Willis scored on an incredible corner kick that hit no defender or Lady Fire player, making the score 3-0 at the half.

Kennedy earned her second goal of the game, just two minutes into the second half, on another assist from Conner.

Kennedy then ended the scoring on an assist from Millar at the 44 minute mark.

Southeastern outshot NCU 24-2 on the day, and Jenna Bartholomew earned the shutout in net for the Lady Fire.

Southeastern will have Friday off, then play No. 3 seed Maranatha Baptist Bible on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The first two rounds of the national tournament are in a pool play format, with the top teams from each pool advancing to the national championship game on Monday at 3:45 p.m.

This year's No. 1 seed, Baptist Bible College, defeated Cincinnati Christian University, 6-0, in the only other game on Thursday.

Southeastern Opens National Tournament with North Central University

LAKELAND, Fla.--The Southeastern University women's soccer team will open the 2008 NCCAA II National Tournament against No. 6 seed North Central University, Thursday afternoon, at 2:00 p.m.

All games for both women's and men's soccer will be played at Austin-Tindall Regional Park in Kissimmee, Fla.

Southeastern is the No. 2 seed in this year's tournament, finishing the regular season with a 14-3-1 overall record and a perfect 8-0 record inside the South Region.

Southeastern will play No. 3 seed Maranatha Baptist Bible College, Saturday, at 2:00 p.m.

This year's national championship format is once again pool play. Southeastern is in pool B along with Maranatha Baptist Bible College and North Central University. Each team in each pool will play each other, and the team with the best record will advance to the NCCAA II National Championship game, Monday, at 3:45 p.m.

The Lady Fire has plenty of talent once again this season and has finished in the top five nationally the past three seasons. More importantly, Southeastern seems to be a little more healthy than in recent years entering this week's national tournament.

Melissa Kennedy, a 2007 NCCAA II First Team All-American, broke the school records this season for goals in a season and career goals. Kennedy has 27 goals on the year and is obviously the centerpiece of the Lady Fire offense.

On defense, Southeastern has two-time All-American Beth Seitz. Seitz has also been named to the NCCAA II National Tournament's All-Tournament team the past two seasons, and Head Coach Dominic Stross hopes her experience can help guide the Lady Fire to the program's first national title.

This year's No. 1 seed is Baptist Bible College, a team with which Southeastern is very familar. Baptist Bible defeated Southeastern in the 2005 national title game, 2-0.

Crown College, which won the 2006 and 2007 National Championships, is not in this year's national championship field.

Kennedy Sets Single Season Goal-Scoring Record in SEU's Victory Over Ave Maria

LAKELAND--On Senior Day at Southeastern, the Lady Fire soccer team shut out Ave Maria University, 7-0, as junior Melissa Kennedy scored a hat trick and broke the school record for goals in a season with 27.

Kennedy came into the game with 24 goals and needed just one to tie the record of 25 set by Maryanne Ulrich back in 2005. Now, Kennedy is all alone in first place with 27 goals on the season and three guaranteed games still to be played.

Kennedy also broke the school record for career goals earlier in the season. She broke Ulrich's previous record of 37 career goals earlier in the season and now has 60 career goals in three seasons at Southeastern.

Three seniors played their last career home game on Saturday and capped off the day by scoring goals. Beth Seitz, Crystal Johnson, and Nicki Rose all scored goals and are the only seniors on the roster for SEU.

Teressa Knab scored the other goal for the Lady Fire.

Southeastern is now 14-3-1 on the year and will play in the 2008 NCCAA II national tournament, starting Thursday when the Lady Fire opens up the tournament against No. 6 seed North Central University at 2:00 p.m.

Lady Fire Wins 2008 South Region Championship

ATLANTA, Ga.--The Southeastern University women's soccer team won its third straight South Region Championship, Saturday, by defeating Toccoa Falls College, 4-0.

It was the Lady Fire's third victory over Toccoa Falls College this season, and the team took an early 1-0 lead when freshman Megan Byrd scored at the 24 minute mark of the first half on an assist from Lindsay Millar.

Southeastern made it 2-0 at the half when Melissa Kennedy scored on an assist from Byrd.

Just 12 minutes into the second half, Kennedy scored her second goal of the game on an assist from Jamie Willis. Kennedy scored five goals in the South Region Tournament in just two games.

Southeastern's final goal came when Byrd set up Millar just six minutes after Kennedy's second goal of the game.

The Lady Fire outshot Toccoa Falls 13-2 for the game, and Southeastern's Jenna Bartholomew earned her second shutout of the tournament.

More importantly for the Lady Fire, the team extended its South Region unbeaten streak to 22 games and has not lost a South Region game since October 29, 2005.

Southeastern (13-3-1) will now advance to the 2008 NCCAA II National Tournament, in Kissimmee, Fla., November 14-17. The Lady Fire most certainly has a chance to be a No. 1 seed in the tournament, as Southeastern is currently ranked No. 2 in the country.

Kennedy was named the 2008 South Region Player of the Year, while Beth Seitz, Alise Gore, and Heather Conner all were named First Team All-Region.

Sabrina Ross, Kristina Pauls, and Byrd were all named Second Team All-Region.

Lady Fire Head Coach Dominic Stross was named the 2008 South Region Coach of the Year.

Lady Fire Advances To South Region Championship Game

ATLANTA, Ga.--The Southeastern University women's soccer team advanced to the South Region Championship game for the fourth consecutive season with a 3-0 victory over Clearwater Christian College, Friday afternoon, at Atlanta Christian College.

Melissa Kennedy scored all of Southeastern's goals as the Lady Fire outshot Clearwater Christian 13-6 and won its seventh straight game over the Lady Cougars. The Lady Fire also pushed its South Region unbeaten streak to 21 games.

Kennedy got Southeastern on the board just five minutes into the game and added her second goal late in the first half to give the Lady Fire a 2-0 lead at the half.

Kennedy started the second half the same way as the first half, scoring her final goal just five minutes into the period, putting the game away for good.

Southeastern is now 12-3-1 this season, overall, and 7-0 this season versus South Region opponents.

The Lady Fire will look to win their third straight South Region title, Saturday, versus Toccoa Falls College.

Southeastern defeated Toccoa Falls, 1-0, in double overtime in their last meeting back on October 17 in Toccoa Falls, Ga. Game time is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

Lady Fire Falls To PCC, 3-1

WINTER HAVEN--The Southeastern University women's soccer team fell to Polk Community College, 3-1, Wednesday night in a hard-fought non-conference match.

Southeastern's only goal came in the first half from Melody Ussery, as PCC used tough defense to hold down the Lady Fire. PCC outshot SEU 8-1 in the game.

Jamie Willis assisted on Ussery's goal.

Lady Fire goal keeper Jenna Bartholomew made five saves in the game.

Southeastern is now 11-2-1 on the year and currently ranked No. 2 in the country in the latest NCCAA II national poll. The Lady Fire will travel to Lake Wales, Florida, tonight to battle NAIA Warner Southern College. Game time is 7:00 p.m.

SEU Tops Toccoa Falls College in Double Overtime

LAKELAND--The Southeastern University Lady Fire soccer team extended its South Region unbeaten streak to 20 games with a 1-0 victory over Toccoa Falls College in double overtime Friday night.

Heather Conner was the hero for SEU, scoring on an assist from Teressa Knab with just under a minute remaining in the second overtime.

The victory now gives Southeastern the No. 1 seed in the upcoming South Region tournament, October 31-November 1, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Good thing for the Lady Fire that Conner scored because no penalty kick shootout would have taken place in the contest Friday night, and a tie in the game could have ousted SEU from being the No. 1 seed in the South Region tournament.

Southeastern outshot Toccoa Falls 11-4 for the game, but TFC goal keeper Arri Hotalen made 10 key saves to keep the Lady Eagles in the contest.

Toccoa Falls historically plays well against the Lady Fire; SEU managed another one goal victory over the Lady Eagles, 2-1, back on September 13 in Toccoa Falls. Also, TFC is the last South Region team not to lose to SEU in the past year, managing a 1-1 tie versus the Lady Fire back on October 5, 2007.

But for Southeastern, the victory improves the Lady Fire to 11-1-1 on the season and 6-0 in the South Region. Southeastern will play Polk Community College, Wednesday, in Winter Haven, Florida, at 7:00 p.m.

Southeastern Defeats Ursuline, 4-1

LAKELAND--The Southeastern Lady Fire soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to nine games as the team defeated Ursuline College, 4-1, Wednesday evening at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.

Lindsay Millar and Melissa Kennedy both scored two goals apiece as Southeastern improves to 9-1-1 on the year.

The Lady Fire will host Florida College next Tuesday.

Lady Fire Keeps South Region Streak Alive; Now Unbeaten In 20 Games

CLEARWATER--It did not come easy for the Southeastern women's soccer team Thursday evening versus Clearwater Christian College.

But an early second half goal by Melissa Kennedy pushed the Lady Fire's unbeaten streak in the South Region to 20 games; SEU defeated Clearwater Christian, 1-0, sweeping the season series.

Teressa Knab assisted on Kennedy's goal, and the Lady Fire defense held CCC to just seven shots for the game.

Jenna Bartholomew earned the shutout in net for SEU, making seven saves.

Southeastern is now 7-1-1 on the year and 4-0 in the South Region. SEU will host Atlanta Christian College, Saturday, at 5:00 p.m.

Lady Fire Rolls Past Florida College, 6-0

LAKELAND--The Southeastern University women's soccer team shut out Tennessee Temple University, 6-0, this past Friday night behind a highly powered Lady Fire offense.

Sabrina Ross and Teressa Knab both scored two goals apiece as SEU outshot Tennessee Temple, 24-1, for the game.

Melissa Kennedy had eight shots on goal and scored a goal and added an assist for the Lady Fire. Southeastern improves to 6-1-1 on the season.

Crystal Johnson added a goal while Jamie Willis dished out three assists. Ross also had an assist while Lauren Gutiierrez and Melody Ussery both had assists in the game.

Southeastern will travel to play Clearwater Christian College, Thursday, at 4:00 p.m.

Southeastern has a 19-game unbeaten streak in the South Region over the past three seasons. SEU's last South Region loss came at the hands of Clearwater Christian College, October 29, 2005, in the South Region championship game in Toccoa Falls, Georgia.

Lady Fire Ties Webber International, 2-2

LAKELAND--The Southeastern women's soccer team tied Webber International University, 2-2, Friday night as Melissa Kennedy scored two goals for the Lady Fire.

Kennedy, a 2007 NCCAA II All-American, dominated the game with five shots on goal, though SEU was outshot, 18-15, for the game.

Candice Cunningham and Christin Carson scored for the Lady Warriors.

The game was tied, 1-1, at halftime. After that slow first half, though, the Lady Fire came out strong in the second half, outshooting Webber 11-9.

Southeastern goalie Jenna Bartholomew had six saves in the game.

Southeastern is now 5-1-1 on the year and will host Tennessee Temple University next Friday at 5:00 p.m.

Lady Fire Wins Two Games In Georgia

TOCCOA FALLS, Ga.--The Southeastern University women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak versus South Region opponents to 19 games with a 2-1 victory over Toccoa Falls College on Saturday.

Melissa Kennedy scored a goal and added an assist while Melody Ussery scored SEU's other goal.

Lindsay Millar added an assist for the Lady Fire.

Southeastern has not lost a South Region game since October 29, 2005 when the Lady Fire fell in the South Region championship game 1-0 to Clearwater Christian College.

SEU has won 18 of its last 19 South Region games, as Toccoa Falls managed to tie the Lady Fire last year in Lakeland, 1-1, on October 5, 2007.

Southeastern (5-1, 3-0) also defeated Atlanta Christian College, 4-0, on Friday.

Ussery and Millar both scored goals while Jamie Willis and Nicki Rose added the other goals for SEU. Kennedy, Crystal Johnson, Heather Conner, and Sabrina Ross all added assists.

Southeastern will host Webber International University, Friday, at 7:00 p.m. under the lights at the Southeastern University soccer complex.

Lady Fire Blanks Florida College, 4-0

LAKELAND--The Southeastern Lady Fire soccer team defeated Florida College, 4-0, Tuesday night behind Melissa Kennedy's two goals and one assist.

Southeastern jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Florida College and scored two more goals in the second half, helping the Lady Fire improve to 3-1 on the season.

Heather Conner and Nicki Rose both scored one goal and added an assist in the game.

Southeastern outshot Florida College 33-9 for the game, and Jamie Willis and Melody Ussery combined for the shutout at the net for SEU.

Southeastern will travel to Georgia this weekend for two games. The Lady Fire start with Atlanta Christian College, Friday night, at 5:45 p.m. On Saturday, SEU will play Toccoa Falls College, starting at 11:00 a.m.

Melissa Kennedy once again led the Lady Fire attack, scoring two goals and adding one assist.

Lindsay Millar and Nicki Rose both added goals for Southeastern, which held CCC to just one shot on goal for the game.

Teressa Knab and Jamie Willis both added assists.

Southeastern is now 2-1 on the season and will host Florida College, Tuesday night, at 5:00 p.m.

Lady Fire Rolls Past Wesleyan College, 9-0

LAKELAND--After being shut out in its season opener Saturday night to Union University, the Southeastern Lady Fire soccer team dominated Wesleyan College, 9-0, Monday afternoon for its first win of the 2008 season.

2007 NCCAA II All-American Melissa Kennedy scored four goals to lead the Lady Fire offense. Kennedy would also add an assist in the game.

Freshman Lindsay Millar and first-year player Teressa Knab both scored a goal and added an assist in the game.

Heather Conner and Melody Ussery both scored goals while freshman mid-fielder Sabrina Ross added two assists.

Jamie Willis and Nicki Rose both had assists in the game.

Southeastern (1-1) will host Clearwater Christian College tonight at 7:00 p.m.

Southeastern has a four-game winning streak versus the Lady Cougars dating back to the 2005 season.

Lady Fire Falls In Season Opener

LAKELAND--The Southeastern University women's soccer team fell to Union University, 3-0, Saturday night in its season opener.

Union scored all three of its goals in the second half. The first half was delayed for about 45 minutes due to lightning.

Caitlin Zimmerman scored two goals while Kimberlee Hauss added the other Union goal; all goals were unassisted.

SEU's Melissa Kennedy managed two shots on goal, and Lady Fire goal keeper Jenna Bartholomew had three saves in the game.

Southeastern (0-1) will host Wesleyan College, Monday, at 11:00 a.m.

Fay Ruins Lady Fire Season Opener

LAKELAND--The remnants of Tropical Storm Fay have put a damper on the Lady Fire's season opener.

Southeastern, scheduled to open its season Friday night versus The College of the Bahamas, has cancelled its game due to Tropical Storm Fay.

Officials from The College of The Bahamas notified Southeastern University, Thursday, that they would be unable to make the trip to the United States for the game.

No makeup game has been scheduled.

Southeastern will now look to its matchup versus Union University at home, Saturday, August 30, as its season opener.

Lady Fire Finishes In Top Five For Third Straight Year

KISSIMMEE--The Southeastern University women's soccer team defeated Maranatha Baptist Bible College, 1-0, Monday to take fifth place overall in the NCCAA II national tournament.

South Region Player of the Year Melissa Kennedy scored the only goal of the game while Jenna Bartholomew earned the shutout in net for the Lady Fire.

SEU did not allow a goal the entire tournament except the three goals Providence College scored on SEU in the penalty kick shootout in round one.

Southeastern finishes the year with a 17-4-1 overall record and finished in the top five nationally for the third straight year.

NATIONALS: Lady Fire Bounces Back, Defeats Cincinnati Christian 1-0

KISSIMMEE--The Southeastern University women's soccer team bounced back Saturday afternoon to defeat Cincinnati Christian University, 1-0, in the NCCAA II National Tournament at the Austin Tindall Regional Park soccer complex.

A pair of Lady Fire freshmen teamed up for the only goal of the game, Heather Conner assisting on Lisa Kok's goal at the 19 minute mark of the first half.

SEU continues to battle injuries this season, playing without South Region Player of the Year Melissa Kennedy, who injured her ankle in SEU's loss to Providence College on Friday.

Southeastern (16-4-1) will now play for fifth place overall on Monday at 3:30 p.m. versus No. 4 seed Maranatha Baptist Bible College.

With a win on Monday, SEU can still make some history.

A victory would give the Lady Fire its 17th win of the year, tying the school record for wins in a season set back in 2005, while also giving the Fire a top five finish nationally for the third consecutive season.

NATIONALS: Lady Fire Loses Heartbreaker

KISSIMMEE--The Southeastern University women's soccer team fell to No. 6 seed Providence College, 3-2, in a penalty kick shootout Friday afternoon, dashing its dreams of winning a national title this season.

The Lady Fire came into the national tournament as the No. 3 seed, but after a scoreless regulation and two overtimes, SEU's first-round game in the NCCAA II National Tournament had to be decided in a penalty kick shootout.

SEU's Amanda Wade and Jamie Willis both scored for SEU in the shootout, but trailing 3-2, Marla Stoltzfus missed wide right as she tried to tie the game for SEU.

Southeastern (15-4-1) outshot Providence College 13-6 and had many opportunities in the game, including a second-half shot that hit the post, the shot coming off the foot of South Region Player of the Year Melissa Kennedy.

SEU will play Cincinnati Christian University on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in a consolation game.

Lady Fire Prepares For National Tournament

KISSIMMEE--The Southeastern University women's soccer team repeated as South Region champion this year and finished the regular season with a 15-3-1 overall record--all while grabbing the No. 3 seed in the upcoming national tournament this weekend.

SEU accomplished this feat despite numerous injuries. The Lady Fire will be shorthanded when it hits the field in the first round of the national tournament, Friday, versus No. 6 seed Providence College.

Game time is 2:30 p.m. at the Austin Tindall Regional Park soccer complex in Kissimmee.

SEU will be without senior defenders Noel Reno and Tara Ellis, who were both All-Region players for the Lady Fire this season.

Freshman mid-fielder Lauren Gutierrez will also be out with a broken collarbone.

Despite all the injuries, SEU still managed a 7-0-1 record in the South Region and has played well in the national tournament the past two seasons.

SEU lost in the national championship game in 2005, finishing second nationally, and finished third nationally in 2006 after a first round loss to eventual national champion Crown College.

Win or lose, SEU will play on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. versus the winner of No. 2 seed Philadelphia Biblical University and No. 7 seed Cincinnati Christian University.

With a win on Saturday, the Lady Fire would play in the NCCAA II National Championship game on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

SEFFNER--The Southeastern University women's soccer team repeated as South Region Champions, Saturday afternoon, defeating Toccoa Falls College, 2-1, on a late second-half goal by Melissa Kennedy at Seffner Christian Academy.

SEU jumped out 1-0 behind Heather Conner's goal from Marla Stoltzfus, just 15 minutes into the game.

SEU led by that score at halftime, but Toccoa Falls College tied it up two minutes into the second half.

"The thought was 'we are going into overtime;' I was resting a couple of players because of that likelihood," said Southeastern Head Coach Dominic Stross.

But, with just under three minutes remaining in regulation, Kennedy scored the game-winning goal on a pass from freshman Brittany Suggs.

The South Region Championship caps off an impressive year for Southeastern, which now has an overall record of 15-3-1 and will advance to play in the NCCAA II National Tournament, November 9-12, in Kissimmee.

"With the injuries, I knew it was going to be tight. I was nervous, but we had a lot of players step up," added Stross.

SEU has been decimated with injuries over the past month and has had to play many inexperienced players on its way to its second straight South Region title.

"This was definitely a good win for us, especially with the injuries," Stross said, "I have a group of seniors that came in my first year as head coach, and to see them complete this is very satisfying."

Southeastern also took home some individual awards on Saturday.

Kennedy was named the 2007 South Region Player of the Year, while eight other Lady Fire players were named First and Second team All-Region.

Beth Seitz, Noel Reno, Courtney Thomas, and Jaime Willis were all named First Team All-Region, while Marla Stoltzfus, Tara Ellis, Lisa Kok, and Heather Conner all earned Second Team All-Region honors.

Dominic Stross was named the 2007 South Region Coach of the Year.

LAKELAND--The Southeastern women's soccer team earned the No. 1 seed in the South Region tournament this weekend in Clearwater.

SEU finished the regular season with a 13-3-1 overall record and a 5-0-1 record in the South Region.

The Lady Fire managed to earn the No. 1 seed despite numerous injuries to many key players.

SEU will open up the tournament with Atlanta Christian College at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

All games will be played on the campus of Clearwater Christian College.

Saturday's championship game will be played at 1:00 p.m.

Lady Fire Loses To Polk Community College

AUBURNDALE--The Southeastern University women's soccer team, who has been struggling with numerous injuries, fell to Polk Community College, Friday night, 4-0.

Freshman goal keeper Jenna Bartholomew made 12 saves and kept the game close in the first half. PCC scored at the 39-minute mark of the first half and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Then, in the second half, PCC took advantage of the Lady Fire's lack of depth and scored three goals in a nine-minute stretch to put the game out of reach.

Southeastern falls to 13-3-1 and will be the number one seed in the upcoming South Region tournament in Clearwater this weekend, October 26-27.

Lady Fire Wins 2007 Homecoming Game

LAKELAND--Southeastern University got back on track Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Ave Maria University on homecoming day for the SEU women's soccer team.

Senior Sarah Loiacono set up Melissa Kennedy just 11 minutes into the game for the game winner.

Senior Courtney Thomas scored right before the end of the half on an assist from Kennedy to give SEU a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Maria Rivas would score the only goal of the second half on another assist from Kennedy as SEU improves to 13-2-1 on the year.

The Lady Fire will next play on Friday, when the team travels to Auburndale to play Polk Community College.

Lady Fire Falls To Warner Southern, 1-0

LAKELAND--Despite battling through numerous injuries, the Southeastern Women's soccer team battled NAIA Warner Southern to a 1-0 loss Friday night at the Southeastern University soccer complex.

After a scoreless first half, Warner Southern scored the game-winning goal just five minutes into the second half; Warner Southern outshot SEU 19-6 for the game.

Southeastern falls to 12-2-1 on the year and will host Ave Maria University for homecoming on Saturday at noon.

Lady Fire Injuries Starting To Mount

The Southeastern University women's soccer team continues its fight towards a NCCAA Division II National Championship despite several losses to its roster.

Over the last few weeks, the women's soccer program has suffered a tremendous blow with several key players out for the remainder of the season from injuries.

Two senior defenders, Noel Reno and Tara Ellis, are out for the rest of the season with ACL injuries. As if that wasn't enough, freshman midfielder Lauren Gutierrez also is out for the season after fracturing her clavicle.

Sophomore goal keeper Victoria Fleck, who also was seeing some time as a forward, continues to recover from a severe injury to her lower back.

Summary of Injuries
--During a game against Wesleyan College, sophomore goal keeper Victoria Fleck was injured when she was playing forward and got her legs swept out from underneath her. She went airborne and landed on her back. She is continuing to recover from this injury.

--During a game against Clearwater Christian, senior defender Noel Reno left the game with a knee injury. The injury occurred when Reno was hit by an opponent. After feeling a "pop" in her knee, she was escorted off the field. An MRI later showed an ACL tear and significant damage to the cartilage in her knee. Reno will miss the remainder of the 2007 season.

--During a game against Atlanta Christian College, senior defender Tara Ellis left the game with a knee injury. This injury occurred when Ellis and an opponent made contact. Tara felt a "pop" in her knee. An exam performed by her orthopedic physician confirmed an ACL tear. Ellis will miss the remainder of the 2007 season.

--SEU's most recent injury came this past Wednesday against Averett University. Freshman midfielder Lauren Gutierrez left the game with an injury to her collar bone. The injury occurred when she flipped head first over the goal keeper while attempting to score. Gutierrez will miss the remainder of the 2007 season.

SEU Dominates NCAA III Averett University

LAKELAND--Melissa Kennedy dominated NCAA III Averett University to lead Southeastern University to a 7-0 victory, Wednesday afternoon at the Southeastern University soccer complex.

Kennedy scored four goals and added two assists as SEU outshot Averett 38-4 for the game.

Kennedy scored two first half goals, and Heather Conner added the other first half goal as SEU took a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Marla Stoltzfus and Lisa Kok both added second half goals along with two more goals from Kennedy as SEU improves to 12-1-1 on the season.

Stoltzfus and Kok also added assists in the game.

Up next for the Lady Fire: a much tougher test against NAIA Warner Southern College, Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the SEU soccer complex.

Lady Fire Ties Toccoa, blanks Atlanta Christian

LAKELAND--The Southeastern University women's soccer team has continued to play well despite many injuries to its defense.

The Lady Fire has already lost senior defenders Noel Reno and Tara Ellis for the season, but despite all the injuries the Lady Fire is still leading the South Region with a 5-0-1 record.

On Friday night, Toccoa Falls College played SEU to a 1-1 tie at the Southeastern University soccer complex.

Much of the first half of the game was played in a downpour, so the game went scoreless into halftime.

Toccoa Falls then struck first in the second half at the 15-minute mark, but Fire leading scorer Melissa Kennedy tied the game at the 34-minute mark of the second half to force overtime.

SEU freshman goal keeper Jenna Bartholomew had six saves in the game as SEU outshot Toccoa Falls College, 16-8.

On Saturday, SEU got back on the winning track by shutting out Atlanta Christian College 4-0.

Sophomore Heather Conner scored two first half goals as Crystal Johnson assisted on the first goal and Katie Dunlap on the second.

Freshman Lisa Kok and junior Marla Stoltzfus added second half goals as SEU outshot ACC 27-6 and improves to 11-1-1.

Lady Fire Wins In Overtime

LAKELAND--The Southeastern University women's soccer team defeated Clearwater Christian College 2-1 in overtime behind Melissa Kennedy's game winner Friday night under the lights at Southeastern University.

SEU is riding a 12-game win streak in the South Region and has not lost a South Region game since Clearwater Christian defeated SEU in the South Region championship game back on October 29, 2005.

Clearwater's Lady Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over SEU Friday until Kennedy netted her first goal of the game on a free-kick to make the score 1-1 at the half.

Defense dominated the game in the second half, and SEU missed some golden opportunities to win the game in regulation. Clearwater Christian forced overtime.

In overtime, two-time NCCAA II All-American Beth Seitz set up the game-winning goal by Kennedy just five minutes into overtime.

SEU improves to 9-1 on the season and 4-0 in the South Region this year.

The Lady Fire will travel to Montgomery, Alabama, on Sunday to play NAIA Huntingdon College.

Lady Fire Wins Two More Games

MACON, Ga.--The Southeastern University women's soccer team won two more games this weekend, improving to 8-1 on the season.

SEU started its two-game road trip with an, 11-0, victory over Tennessee Temple University, Saturday afternoon, in Chattanooga, Tenn.

SEU jumped out to take a 5-0 lead into halftime as Jamie Willis and Vicky Fleck both scored two first-half goals. Marla Stoltzfus added the other first-half goal.

Stoltzfus would add another goal in the second half while Beth Seitz would contribute two second-half goals; Fleck would record her first ever hat trick with another goal in the second half.

Noel Reno and Sarah Loiacono would both score goals in the second half as SEU out shot Tennessee Temple, 35-0, for the game.

Amy Delettre and Jenna Bartholomew would combine on the shutout for the Lady Fire.

The Lady Fire then traveled to Macon, Gaeorgia, to take on NCAA III Wesleyan College.

Melissa Kennedy would lead the Lady Fire by scoring a hat trick as SEU defeated Wesleyan, 6-0.

Willis, Fleck, and Seitz all continued to stay hot by scoring goals in the victory.

Southeastern will next play Friday, when the Lady Fire hosts Clearwater Christian College at 7:00 p.m.

SEU Shuts Out Clearwater Christian, 3-0

CLEARWATER--The Southeastern University women's soccer team won its 11th straight South Region contest, Tuesday, by defeating Clearwater Christian College, 3-0, behind another strong defensive effort from the Lady Fire.

Freshman Lisa Kok scored a goal for the third straight game just eight minutes in, to give SEU an early 1-0 lead. Melissa Kennedy assisted on the goal.

Then, Amanda Wade set up Jamie Willis to give the Lady Fire a 2-0 lead before freshman mid-fielder Lauren Gutierrez scored from Crystal Johnson to end the half, giving SEU all the goals it would need for the game.

Three goal keepers combined for the shutouts: senior Amy Delettre, sophomore Vicky Fleck, and freshman Jenna Bartholomew helped SEU record its third shutout of the year.

Tuesday's shutout of Clearwater Christian marked SEU's third-straight shutout of Clearwater Christian since 2006.

SEU is now 5-0 on the season and will travel to Babson Park, Florida, to play NAIA Webber International University on Saturday. Game time is at 3:00 p.m.

Lady Fire Takes Two On Road Trip

TOCCOA FALLS, Ga.--The Southeastern University women's soccer team just keeps on rolling in the early part of this 2007 season. The Lady Fire won two games this weekend in Georgia, defeating Atlanta Christian College, 2-1, on Friday and then shutting out Toccoa Falls College, 2-0, on Saturday.

In Atlanta, SEU surrendered the first goal of the game, but Melissa Kennedy tied the game up with just under 10 minutes to play in the first half, making the score, 1-1, at the half.

Freshman Lisa Kok scored the game winner in the second half, netting her first goal of the year as SEU won its ninth straight game over Atlanta Christian College.

On Saturday, the Lady Fire got on the board versus TFC just three minutes in as Kok scored her second goal of the year; the point gave SEU an early 1-0 lead.

Kennedy would add another goal in the half to end the scoring while the Lady Fire defense pitched its second shutout of the season.

SEU now has won 10 straight South Region games.

The Lady Fire will next play Clearwater Christian College on Tuesday.

Lady Fire Gets 2-1 Victory Over Fontbonne University

LAKELAND--The Southeastern University women's soccer team moved to 2-0 on the year as it defeated NCAA D-III Fontbonne University(St. Louis, Mo.) 2-1 on Friday night.

The Lady Fire opened up the scoring at the 12:00 mark in the first half when Jamie Willis scored on a header from Melissa Kennedy for her first goal of the year.

Fontbonne answered back at 23:06 in the first half on a break-away goal after a defensive lapse.

With 10 minutes left in the game Melissa Kennedy scored the winning goal as she was taken down in the box.

Kennedy was awarded a penalty kick and netted her second goal of the year.

"Defensively we played much better today than Saturday even though we gave up a goal. We showed we can play a physical team and still maintain our game plan," said Lady Fire coach Dominic Stross.

Southeastern plays its next game on the road as it travels to play regional opponent Atlanta Christian next Friday.

Lady Fire Open Up Season With Win

LAKELAND--The Southeastern University women's soccer team opened up their season with a 4-0 victory over USCAA Florida College Saturday afternoon before 350 Lady Fire fans at the Southeastern University Soccer Complex.

Heather Conner scored SEU's first goal of the year with 30:41 left in the first half, assisted by Katie Dunlap.

Then SEU's leading goal scorer from 2006, Melissa Kennedy, got her first goal of 2007 to put the Lady Fire up 2-0.

Kennedy scored nine goals last year as a freshman and led the Lady Fire with 25 points on the year.

Courtney Thomas, who was a First Team All-Region selection in 2006, made it 3-0 at the end of the first half.

Marla Stoltzfus scored SEU's only second-half goal as the game was called due to lightning just 19:10 into the second half.

Southeastern is 1-0 on the year and will host NCAA III Fontbonne University next Friday at 5:00 p.m.

Coach Stross Announces 2007 Women's Soccer Schedule

LAKELAND--the Southeastern University women's soccer coach, Dominic Stross, announced his 2007 soccer schedule on Wednesday, showing the path the Lady Fire will take for another successful season this year.

Nine home dates, two trips to Georgia, and one trip to Alabama highlight the schedule as SEU will play a 17-game regular season. The Lady Fire will open their season at home versus Florida College on August 25 at 5:00 p.m.

The month of September will see the Lady Fire playing just one game at home, a South Region matchup with Clearwater Christian College on September 28.

The Lady Fire will then play six of seven games at home in the month of October.

"Our 2007 schedule will be challenging," said Stross, who guided Southeastern to NCCAA II Final Four appearances in each of his first two seasons. "It will be challenging because we play three of our region games very early and because of the total number of games played away from home. We will spend the month of September on the road, making two trips to Georgia and one to Alabama. I think this can help this young team grow and hopefully bond as they deal with the stresses of extended travel."

Southeastern, which finished 15-5-1 last season, will return 10 players from the 2006 team that finished third nationally. SEU finished second nationally in 2005 and has suffered its losses in national tournament play to the eventual NCCAA II National Champions the past two seasons.

"We lost some very strong players from last year's team, and we will be adding 10 new faces," added Stross. "Our main priority in preseason camp will be to work on team chemistry and unity."

Southeastern lost a total of eleven players from the 2006 roster. Those eleven players combined for 19 of the 46 goals and 19 of the 45 assists registered in the 2006 campaign.

Monica Arroyo and Beth Seitz were both two-time NCCAA II All-Americans. Arroyo was named the 2006 South Region Player of the Year and received the team's Most Valuable Teammate award in 2004 and 2006.

"Monica was a tremendous player and person," stated Stross. "She leaves a big void in our team, and it will be interesting to see which current player will step up to fill it."

The Southeastern women's soccer team has established itself as a national power in the NCCAA II over the last two seasons. The Fire has not lost a regular season game to a NCCAA II opponent since the 2004 season and outscored its South Region opponents 25-1 last year.

SEU Finishes Third In The Nation

KISSIMMEE--After falling to Crown College, 2-1, on Thursday, the Southeastern University women's soccer team rallied to win two straight games at the 2006 NCCAA II National Tournament and finish the season ranked No. 3 in the nation.

It is the Lady Fire's second straight season finishing in the top-three nationally. Last year SEU lost in the national championship game and finished the season No. 2 nationally.

On Friday, Southeastern defeated Cincinnati Christian University, 1-0, when Monica Arroyo scored the only goal of the game on an assist from Crystal Johnson.

Southeastern outshot Cincinnati Christian, 35-6, and Amy Delettre earned her ninth shutout of the season for the Lady Fire.

On Saturday, SEU matched up with a familar foe, South Region team Toccoa Falls College. The Lady Fire shut out Toccoa Falls College, 2-0, and defeated the Lady Eagles for the fourth time this season.

Southeastern led 1-0 at halftime on a Johnson goal set up from Arroyo. Then, Arroyo sealed the win for SEU when she scored the only goal of the second half. Barbara Landis earned the shutout in net for SEU.

Arroyo and Beth Seitz both were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Southeastern set a new school record with 14 shutouts on the season and finished the year with a 15-5-1 overall record.

Lady Fire Falls To Crown College, 2-1

KISSIMMEE--The Southeastern University women's soccer team's dreams of winning a national championship came to an early end Thursday afternoon when No. 2 seed Crown College defeated the Lady Fire, 2-1, in the NCCAA II National Tournament.

Crystal Johnson put SEU on the board first at the 29-minute mark of the first half when she scored on a crossing pass from Marla Stolzfus.

But Crown College tied the game with just under three minutes left in the first half; the teams went tied into the locker room, 1-1.

Crown then scored just 10 minutes into the second half and held off the Lady Fire, which outshot Crown, 19-7.

SEU pressed the entire second half and had some great scoring chances, but the team could not find the net to tie the game and force overtime.

Southeastern will play Cincinnati Bible College on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Lady Fire Wins First South Region Title

LAKELAND--After allowing its first goal of the season versus South Region competition, SEU rallied from behind Saturday afternoon and defeated Toccoa Falls College, 3-1, to win the program's first ever South Region title.

After allowing a fluke goal midway through the first half, SEU's Stephanie Beaman scored on a cross pass from Melissa Kennedy, tying the score, 1-1, at halftime.

Then, the Lady Fire took control in the second half and scored 14 minutes in when Nicki Rose connected on a corner kick from Kennedy.

SEU got an insurance goal from Kelly Joyner on a touch pass from Auburndale's Crystal Johnson as the Lady Fire improved to 13-4-1 on the season and 8-0 in South Region play.

Southeastern is ranked No.1 in the country for NCCAA II women's soccer teams and is expected to earn the No.1 overall seed in next week's NCCAA II National Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida.

SEU finished second in the nation last year, falling to Baptist Bible College in the national championship game.

Southeastern also took home plenty of individual hardware on Saturday as eight Lady Fire players earned All-Region honors.

Jamie Willis and Marla Stoltzfus both were named Second Team All-Region players while Beth Seitz, Tara Ellis, Courtney Thomas, and Melissa Kennedy all earned First Team All-Region honors.

Senior Monica Arroyo was named South Region Player of the Year.

SEU Head Coach and former Florida Southern standout Dominic Stross did not repeat as South Region Coach of the Year, but his Lady Fire team outscored its South Region opponents 25-1 on the season. Stross has taken SEU to the national tournament in his first two seasons as head coach at Southeastern.

Tournament seedings will be released by the end of the weekend.

SEU Advances To South Region Championship Game

LAKELAND--The 2006 season of the Southeastern University women's soccer team has been one of its most successful in school history. This season followed a year in which the Lady Fire went 17-5-1 and finished second in the nation in 2005.

Entering Friday night's South Region Tournament, in which the Lady Fire was the No.1 seed with a perfect 6-0 record, SEU was just two wins away from winning the program's first South Region title.

The Lady Fire did not dissappoint with a 5-0 victory over No. 4 seed Atlanta Christian College and advanced to the South Region championship game on Saturday versus No. 2 seed Toccoa Falls College.

Toccoa Falls defeated No. 3 Clearwater Christian, 2-0, Friday night.

Southeastern's Courtney Thomas scored the first goal of the game on a cross pass from Melissa Kennedy at the 21-minute mark of the first half.

Thomas then scored again before the end of the first half on a cross pass from senior Monica Arroyo, giving SEU a 2-0 lead at the halfway point.

Arroyo then scored an unassisted goal in the second half, putting the game away for the Lady Fire. Noel Reno and Nicki Rose both added goals for SEU, and Amy Delettre and the Lady Fire defense had another strong showing with their 11th shutout of the season, tying a school record set a year ago.

SEU has not allowed a goal in South Region play all season long; the team has outscored its South Region opponents 22-0 on the year.

The South Region championship game will be played on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Lady Fire Defeats NAIA Warner Southern, 3-1

LAKE WALES--The Southeastern women's soccer team defeated NAIA Warner Southern College, 3-1, Thursday night.

Marla Stoltzfus scored on an assist from Abby Yetter at the 10:30 mark of the first half, giving SEU an early 1-0 lead.

Melissa Kennedy then scored on another assist from Abby Yetter, giving SEU a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Warner Southern scored first in the second half, but SEU came right back when Jamie Willis stole the ball from a Lady Royal defender, dribbled it past the Warner Southern keeper, and kicked it into the empty net. Willis gave SEU a 3-1 lead.

The win for the Lady Fire gives SEU its second straight win in the series over Warner Southern.

Southeastern is now 11-4-1 on the season and will be the No.1 seed in the South Region Tournament next weekend in Lakeland, Florida.

Lady Fire Defeats Clearwater Christian, Ranks No.1 In The Country

CLEARWATER--The Southeastern women's soccer team defeated Clearwater Christian College, 4-0, Tuesday night, giving the Lady Fire a perfect South Region record during its regular season.

SEU is now 10-4-1 on the season and has a perfect 6-0 record in the South Region; the Lady Fire has not surrendered a goal in region play all season.

Melissa Kennedy and Crystal Johnson both scored first half goals, giving SEU a 2-0 lead at halftime. Kennedy added another goal in the second half while Noel Reno added the final goal for the Lady Fire; SEU outshot Clearwater Christian 19-7.

Amy Delettre earned her sixth shutout of the season, giving SEU its 11th shutout this season; this 11th shutout ties a school mark set last season.

The Lady Fire's recent play has impressed many national and regional chairs who vote on national rankings, for Southeastern was ranked No.1 in the nation in the most recent poll released Tuesday.

It is the first time in school history that the women's soccer program has been ranked No.1 nationally.

Southeastern will travel to NAIA Warner Southern on Thursday before it competes in the South Region Tournament next weekend.

SEU will be the No.1 seed in the South Region Tournament, and the Lady Fire will host the tournament starting next Friday.

Women's Soccer Honors Four Seniors
(10-16-06)

LAKELAND--The Southeastern women's soccer team honored four seniors before its last regular season home game, Saturday, versus Ave Maria.

The four seniors honored were Abby Yetter, Rachel Jackson, Monica Arroyo, and Barbara Landis.

Yetter, a two-year player for Coach Dominic Stross, was a First Team All-Region selection in 2005. She has an overall record at SEU of 28-9-2.

Jackson is a mid-fielder and also played two years for Coach Stross with an overall record of 28-9-2.

Arroyo is a three-year player who is a two-time First Team All-Region selection. Arroyo has compiled a 33-24-2 overall record at SEU with two NCCAA II Final Four appearances.

Landis played midfield and keeper for SEU throughout her career and is the first four-year member of the SEU Lady Fire soccer program. She has an overall record of 34-35-2 and is the only player remaining on the roster that participated in the program's inaugural season in 2003.

All of these players played an instrumental role in last year's team that went 17-5-1 and finished second in the nation.

More importantly their careers are not over yet, as SEU is the No. 1 seed in the upcoming South Region Tournament, October 27-28, in Lakeland.

SEU Falls To Faulkner, Defeats Ave Maria

LAKELAND--The Southeastern University women's soccer team fell to NAIA Faulkner University, 3-1, on Friday night but came back strong on Saturday to defeat Ave Maria University, 3-0. The Lady Fire's performance enabled the team to manage a split on the weekend versus the two scholarship schools.

Southeastern scored first versus Faulkner as Melissa Kennedy scored on a pass from Crystal Johnson. But Faulkner would score all three of its goals in an 11-minute span in the first half and seal the Lady Fire's fate.

On Saturday, after a scoreless first half, Kennedy scored two second half goals while Johnson added the other SEU goal. Southeastern outshot Ave Maria 37-0 while Barbara Landis and Kim Ferguson combined on the shutout.

Every SEU victory this season has been a shutout victory. The Lady Fire is one shutout away from tying the school record for most shutouts in a season, which was set last year with 11 shutouts.

Four seniors were honored before the game on Saturday: four-year player Barbara Landis, three-year team player Monica Arroyo, and two-year players Abby Yetter and Rachel Jackson.

Southeastern is now 9-4-1 on the year and will travel to play Clearwater Christian College on Tuesday.

Lady Fire Defeats Johnson Bible; Manages Tie With Bryan College

DAYTON, TN--The Southeastern women's soccer team continued its strong play with a 2-0 victory over Johnson Bible College, Friday, and then managed a scoreless tie with NAIA Bryan College on Saturday.

Southeastern outshot Johnson Bible College 38-2 but only managed two goals on the day. Crystal Johnson scored for the Lady Fire while Amy Delettre earned her fifth shutout of the season.

Then finishing out the road trip Southeastern could not find the net versus Bryan College despite outshooting Bryan 20-8. It was SEU's first tie of the season.

Delettre earned another shutout for the Lady Fire whose defense now has nine shutouts on the season.

Southeastern's record is 8-2-1 and all eight victories have been shutouts for the Lady Fire. SEU had 11 shutout victories last season.

Lady Fire Stays Perfect In South Region

LAKELAND--The Southeastern University women's soccer team added two more shutouts this weekend against South Region competition, keeping the Lady Fire perfect in the region and also on a five-game winning streak.

SEU started off the weekend with a victory over Toccoa Falls College, 2-0, Friday afternoon.

Melissa Kennedy scored just before halftime to give the Lady Fire a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half. Jamie Willis assisted on the goal.

All-American defender Beth Seitz sealed the victory for SEU with an amazing half-field shot that got over the Lady Eagle defense just seven minutes into the second half.

The Lady Fire outshot Toccoa Falls, 16-6, in the game, and Barbara Landis earned her second shutout of the season. Landis has filled in for starting goalkeeper Amy Delettre and has not surrendered a goal on the season.

On Saturday, the Lady Fire downed Atlanta Christian College, 4-0; SEU has outscored its South Region opponents 13-0 on the season so far.

Kennedy added two first-half goals for SEU while Kelly Joyner and Sarah Loiacono both scored second-half goals to seal the Lady Chargers' fate.

Barbra Landis received her third shutout of the season for SEU.

SEU is now 7-2 overall on the season and also 5-0 in the South Region.

Lady Fire Stays Perfect In South Region

TOCCOA FALLS, GA--Kelly Joyner's goal 13 minutes into the second half gave the Southeastern University women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Toccoa Falls College on Saturday, keeping the Lady Fire perfect in the South Region with a 3-0 record.

Barbara Landis earned her first shutout of the year for the Lady Fire, which has outscored its opponents in the South Region 9-0.

SEU defeated Atlanta Christian College, 2-0, on Friday night, giving SEU a 5-2 overall record with a three-game winning streak still intact.

Joyner and Amanda Wade both scored goals in SEU's victory over ACC. Amy Delettre earned her fourth shutout of the season.

Southeastern will host Toccoa Falls College on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

SEU Sweeps Season Series With Florida College

TEMPLE TERRACE--After a scoreless first half of soccer, the Southeastern University women's soccer team scored two second-half goals to defeat Florida College, 2-0, Tuesday, sweeping the season series away from the Lady Eagles.

Southeastern's Nicki Rose and Marla Stoltzfus scored goals while Amy Delettre earned her third shutout of the season for the Lady Fire.

SEU outscored Florida College 8-0 in its two victories against the Lady Eagles this year.

With the win Southeastern improves to 3-2 on the year.

Next up for the Lady Fire: two South Region contests in Georgia. First, SEU will face Atlanta Christian on Friday, followed by a game versus Toccoa Falls College on Saturday.

Southeastern is 1-0 in the South Region so far and has won nine of its last 10 South Region contests.

Southeastern Blanks Clearwater Christian, 4-0

LAKELAND--The Southeastern University women's soccer team got a little revenge on its South Region rival, Clearwater Christian, Thursday night, shutting the Lady Cougars out in a 4-0 victory for SEU.

Crystal Johnson and Nicki Rose scored first-half goals for the Lady Fire, giving SEU a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, SEU continued to dominate and added two more goals. This time Courtney Thomas scored on a deep cross pass from Jamie Willis, giving the Lady Fire a 3-0 lead.

Then, Monica Arroyo scored a pretty, unassisted goal at the 34-minute mark of the second half to give SEU a convincing 4-0 lead and ended all the scoring.

Amy Delettre earned her second shutout of the season.

Southeastern has won its last two games by a total score of 9-0. SEU will host NCAA II Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

GAME CHANGE: Women's Soccer Game Versus Clearwater Christian Moved To Lakeland

LAKELAND--A game scheduled between the Southeastern University women's soccer team and Clearwater Christian College was changed Thursday afternoon and moved to Southeastern University.

The game was scheduled to be played at Clearwater Christian today at 4:00 p.m., but due to heavy rains in the Clearwater area the game was moved to Southeastern and will played under the lights at 7:00 p.m.

Southeastern was supposed to host Clearwater Christian on October 17, but that game will now be moved to Clearwater Christian and played at 4:00 p.m.

Lady Fire Opens Season With Win

LAKELAND--The Southeastern women's soccer team opened its season Monday night with a 6-0 victory over Florida College.

The Lady Fire finished second in the country last year and is expected to have another great season; the Lady Fire did not dissappoint the home fans on Monday night.

SEU took a 3-0 lead into the locker room at halftime as Marla Stoltzfus scored the first goal of the year for the Lady Fire. Abby Yetter assisted on the goal.

Next, Monica Arroyo set up Nicki Rose to give SEU an early 2-0 lead while Arroyo came right back and scored a goal of her own to end the first half of scoring.

Stoltzfus and Rose would both add goals in the second half, and Yetter would add an unassisted goal to give SEU a 6-0 victory. Melissa Kennedy contributed two assists on the day.

Amy Delettre got the shutout in net for SEU. It was Delettre's first shutout of her career.

Southeastern outshot Florida College 24-5 and is now 1-0 on the season. The Lady Fire will host Polk Community College on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
