#5 JANET ARTIS     

Year: Freshman

Height: 5'8

Position: Guard

Hometown: Land O' Lakes, FL

High School: Land O' Lakes High School

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Artis was the starting point guard at Land O’Lakes High School. She also served one year as the captain of the team. With a great desire to play college basketball, Artis is a back-up guard for the Southeastern Fire. She brings a great attitude every day to practices, games, Christian service projects, and all other activities. Artis is an encourager to her teammates and has earned a spot on our roster.

PERSONAL: She's the daughter of Barry and Sandi Artis and is majoring in mathematics.

#3 REBEKAH COHEN

Year: Freshman

Height: 5'9

Position: Forward

Hometown: Atlanta, GA

High School: Hebron Christian Academy

 

LAST YEAR: Last year Cohen attended Lee University in Cleveland, TN. She is a sophomore with a 3.88 GPA. Upon her transfer to Southeastern, Cohen re-ignited her basketball career and provides a scoring punch at the guard position.

HIGH SCHOOL: Cohen led Hebron Christian to a 27-5 record her senior year. In over 100 varsity games played, she averaged 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals per game. Hebron Christian won the GCAA state championship twice and advanced to the GHSA Final Four during her senior year. Cohen has won numerous awards, including best offensive player, coach’s award, all-tournament team, and MVP awards. She also was named to several all-academic teams.

PERSONAL: Cohen is the daughter of Stephen (a recent SEU master's grad) and Christine Cohen. She is majoring in English and psychology.

 

#42 AMANDA HUDSON

Year: Freshman

Height: 6'2

Position: Forward

Hometown: Millsboro, DE

High School: Salisbury Christian School

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Hudson, a 6’2 post player, completed her high school career at Salisbury Christian School in Delaware after competing for Epworth Christian School through her junior year. She helped lead her high school teams to PACC championships in both 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 and a 17-4 record her senior year. For her efforts, she was named the team MVP during her junior year and received the coach’s award her senior year. She is contributing well this fall, backing up our starting post players.

PERSONAL: Hudson is the daughter of Jeff and Donna Hudson. She is majoring in business.
Her brother also attends Southeastern.

 

#25 CHARITY KIDDER

Year: Sophomore

Height: 5'10

Position: Forward

Hometown: Clearwater, FL

High School: Clearwater High School

 

LAST SEASON: Last year Kidder went on a basketball scholarship to Daytona Beach Community College. Before her transfer to Southeastern, she started some at Daytona and brings great shooting ability and enthusiasm to the Lady Fire. This fall she has been playing a shooting guard and has also scored well from a slashing “3” position. Kidder is an alternate captain for the team.

HIGH SCHOOL: Kidder helped lead Clearwater High School to a
27-3 record during her senior year. She averaged 11 points per game,
averaged 60% from the field and earned most improved player, all-county recognition, and MVP awards. Kidder also was named to the honor roll.

PERSONAL: Kidder is the daughter of Mike and Shelley Kidder. She is a church ministries major.

#4 HEATHER KITTS

Year: Sophomore

Height: 5'8

Position: Forward

Hometown: Orlando, FL

High School: Pine Castle

 

AT SOUTHEASTERN: Last year Kitts averaged 3.0 points and
2.5 rebounds per game, coming off the bench for the Lady Fire. Kitts
plays intensive defense and guards opponents often much taller. Her
experience at the post position in high school has allowed her to compete
strongly this fall. Kitts serves as an alternate captain.

HIGH SCHOOL: Kitts helped lead Pine Castle to a 22-7 record. She averaged 9 points and 10 rebounds per game and made the 1,000 point club in her high school career. Kitts has won various leadership and character awards, and with advanced placement courses, carried a grade point average in excess of 4.00. She was the team MVP and served as captain for three years.

PERSONAL: Kitts is the daughter of Tim and Soraya Kitts. She is majoring in psychology and  minoring in business. She also plays in the Southeastern wind ensemble.

#32 CURRIE POWERS

Year: Sophomore

Height: 6'3

Hometown: Valdosta, GA

High School: Lowndes

 

AT SOUTHEASTERN: Last year during an injury-riddled freshman season, Powers served as the back-up center, scored 5.2 points, and grabbed 4.4 rebounds per game. Previously, Powers graduated from Lowndes High School in 2004 and was a highly sought-after NCAA Division I recruit. After deciding to attend Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, Powers suffered knee injuries and attended Valdosta State University in Spring 2005. Since then, she has transferred to Southeastern to resume her basketball career. She is a captain for this basketball team and shows signs of returning to her dominating role.

HIGH SCHOOL: Powers led Lowndes High School to a 22-6 record her senior year. At 6’3”, she averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game and won numerous honors. She competed on the state of Georgia’s top AAU Women’s Basketball Team and attended a NCAA Division I university on a full scholarship.

PERSONAL: Powers is the daughter of Mike and Brenda Powers. She is majoring in sport and
recreation management. She participated in a missions trip to Africa in July.

#12 KRYSTIAN THOMPSON

Year: Sophomore

Height: 5'5

Hometown: Orlando, FL

High School: Edgewater High School

LAST SEASON: Last year, Thompson went on a basketball scholarship to Florida Community College in Jacksonville, Florida, and had some career games there, including a career-high 31-point game. She has become Southeastern’s point guard this fall and has both managed the offense and scored well in early scrimmages. Thompson is an alternate captain for the team.

HIGH SCHOOL: Thompson helped lead Edgewater High School to a 22-7 record during her senior year. She averaged 15 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals per game. She has won the following awards: the most improved player, the hustle award, best three-point shooter, best offensive player, and the MVP award. Thompson also has garnered all-tournament team honors.

PERSONAL: Thompson is the daughter of Tony and Shannon Brackins and Ron Thompson. She is majoring in psychology.

#40 CRISTEN WALL

Year: Sophomore

Height: 5'11

Hometown: Arvada, CO

High School: Faith Christian Academy

 

AT SOUTHEASTERN: Last year, after earning All-Region honors on the Lady Fire volleyball team, Wall joined the basketball program and averaged 5.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. A great team player, Wall earned the year-end Coach’s Award. She has shown strong abilities in both scoring and rebounding in early scrimmages this fall. She is a captain for the team.

HIGH SCHOOL: Wall helped lead Faith Christian Academy to a 25-3 record and a 2nd place finish in the Colorado 3A state basketball tournament. She averaged 14.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and set Faith Christian's career rebounding record. Wall was named to the 3A First Team All-State, the all-state tournament team, and the all-conference basketball team.

PERSONAL: Wall is the daughter of Brian (her high school coach) and Eve Wall. She is majoring in leadership. She also won all-state honors in volleyball.

#44 CANDACE WASHINGTON

Year: Freshman

Height: 6'3

Position: Center

Hometown: Sanford, FL

High School: Seminole High School

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Washington attended Seminole High School and then Seminole Community College briefly. Washington has spent the past two years in the federal Job Corps program. She was the first in her class to complete her vocational trade training as a medical assistant. Very athletic and 6’3, Washington led her local Job Corps basketball team, averaging 20 points per game and leading the team in assists. She also led a student government team into national competition. This fall, Washington is transitioning to the college game and is Southeastern’s back-up center.

PERSONAL: Washington is the daughter of Mike and Jennifer Washington. She is majoring in sport and recreation management.

#31 ERICA WELCH

Year: Freshman

Height: 5'4

Position: Guard

Hometown: Bolling AFB, DC

High School: Word of Life Christian

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Welch played the point guard position for Word of Life Christian, averaging 10 points and six assists per game while playing for former Southeastern graduate Chad Speight. Welch was the team captain and female athlete of the year, and she received the coach’s award. She was a three-sport starter in basketball, volleyball and soccer. This fall, Welch is coming off the bench and contributing as the back-up point guard.

PERSONAL: Welch is the daughter of Ron and Ruth Southern and Bill Logan. She is majoring in social work.

 

#22 SARAH WOESCH

Year: Freshman

Height: 5'9

Position: Forward

Hometown: St. Petersburg, FL

High School: (home-schooled) Mountain Home, AR

 

HIGH SCHOOL: Woesch was home-schooled in Mountain Home, Arkansas, through her junior year, where she was named her homeschool's team MVP and competed in a homeschool national tournament in Oklahoma City. For Woesch’s senior year, her parents moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where she joined the Indian Rocks Christian program. Averaging nine points, nine rebounds, and two assists per game, Woesch became the team’s MVP. Cited by her coach as being the hardest-working player he had ever coached, Woesch has stepped into the Southeastern program and can play any position on the floor.

PERSONAL: Woesch is the daughter of Rick and Martha Woesch. She is majoring in business management.
