SEASON REVIEW, 2008-2009

The 2008-2009 season of the women’s basketball team saw the Lady Fire and Head Coach Ed Plastow win over 20 games for the sixth consecutive year.

The Lady Fire started the season off slowly, going just 2-4 in the team's first six games. But a double-overtime victory over LaGrange College on November 21 helped get the Lady Fire rolling as the team then won a school-record 13 straight games.

Southeastern won three tournaments in the 2008-2009 season: the Southeastern Lady Fire Classic, the Piedmont Baptist Tournament, and the 2009 AGCU Assemblies of God Tournament.
After a loss to Atlanta Christian College on January 29, Southeastern went on a five-game winning streak to improve to 20-5 on the season.

However, by the midpoint of the second semester, numerous injuries began to pile up for the Lady Fire, and the team ended up losing five out of its last six games of the season.

Southeastern ended the year with another loss to Atlanta Christian College in the semi-finals of the South Region Tournament in Atlanta, Ga. Despite having a great NCCAA II record and NCCAA II National Tournament resume, the Lady Fire was unable to lock up an at-large bid to the NCCAA II National Tournament.

Southeastern finished the year with a 21-10 record and a 9-4 record within the South Region.

Individually, senior Charity Kidder was once again named a First Team All-Region player along with sophomore Casey Jensen. Kidder was also named a First Team NCCAA II All-American, while Jensen was named a Second Team NCCAA II All-American.

Kidder leaves Southeastern as the school’s all-time leader in assists and finishes her career with 1,356 points, good for third place in the Southeastern record book.

After just her second full season, Jensen moved into third place all-time in school history for career rebounds, having collected 636 rebounds since 2007. Jensen has averaged 12.7 rebounds per game in the 50 games she has played at Southeastern.
