ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE The Athletic Department works with the Office of Academic Success and is committed to helping all students succeed at Southeastern. We work with students to identify their God-given strengths to help them flourish, whether they have a physical or learning disability or need to sharpen their performance in a class.
Students with Disabilities We work with students and professors to equip students who have disabilities with accommodations they may need to take notes, study and fulfill coursework. But more importantly, we aid students in discovering their unique gifts that can help them excel in the studies to which they have been called. A wheelchair-bound student with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) may get frustrated with having to navigate a classroom with her wheelchair and staying attentive during long lectures. But she also may be gifted with exceptional drive, determination and resourcefulness-strengths she can use to thrive in her classes. We coach students to acknowledge and use their talents so they may reap academic and, eventually, professional success. Tutoring and Writing Lab Southeastern students who need help in any subject may receive tutoring through the Academic Assistance Center . Center assistants also coach students who want to improve their writing or grammar or need help improving research papers. Center assistants work one-on-one with students, peer editing their papers and tutoring them in aspects of writing and grammar that are problematic for the students. Testing The Office of Academic Success offers assessment tests for learning disabilities, vocational aptitudes and personality inventories. In addition to these tests, the office administers standardized tests including the following: College Level Academic Skills (CLAST) test, which assesses the skills of Southeastern graduates, and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests, exit exams that can enhance the credentials of academic departments. Athletes and other students who must take make-up tests also may take their exams through the Office of Academic Success.
