Biography
In 2006, Dr. Bob Houlihan brought his lifetime of passion for and experience in missions to Southeastern, stepping into the leadership of the College of Christian Ministries and Religion. His goal, he says, “is to be a kingdom builder and communicate the power, practicality, and passion of the gospel to the world.”

Dr. Houlihan and his wife, Carolyn, started their missions career in the East, ministering in Japan for more than 21 years. Dr. Houlihan served in Korea and Taiwan as the Far East Northern Area representative for Assemblies of God World Missions, overseeing the ministries of fellow AG missionaries and planning missions strategy for the northern area of the Asia Pacific. For 11 years, Dr. Houlihan also oversaw 300 missionaries in 35 countries as the Regional Director of all Asia Pacific AG World Missions. During their years abroad, the Houlihans were pacesetters in community evangelistic efforts, as exemplified by their role in the production of a major religious television program in Japan, reaching an actual audience of more than one million people.

The Houlihans taught at Central Bible College in Tokyo, Japan, and at Ochanomizu Joshi University. Dr. Houlihan helped to develop the Asia Pacific Theological Association and served on the board of Asia Pacific Theological Seminary for ten years. He and his wife also pioneered and pastored the International Christian Assembly in the center of Tokyo.

Dr. Houlihan also has extensive experience in Christian compassion ministries, first serving as president of Mission of Mercy, which expanded its outreach from 19 to 42 countries during his tenure and more than doubled its income. This expansion allowed the ministry to care for 65,000 underprivileged children through schools, orphanages, and feeding programs. Dr. Houlihan then served as president of Compassionate Alliance, a non-profit international disaster-relief organization. Besides meeting basic necessities, Compassion Alliance addresses training and educational needs to help individuals and communities rise above the cycle of poverty. Most important of all, the spiritual needs of the people who receive the resources are addressed.

Dr. Houlihan teaches the following courses at Southeastern: Contemporary Issues in Missions, Foundations in Cross-Cultural Communications, Managing Change and Conflict, Leadership Development, Missionary Life and Work, and Student Ministry Practicum. His research interests are in missional leadership, 21^st century missions and the changing world, the role of Pentecostal leadership and the emerging church theology, leadership development and the role of discipleship training, and compassion ministries to children at risk.

Brief Highlights:

• As International Director of Transformation Alliance, partnered with 100 evangelical Singapore churches to change impoverished and war-torn East Timor physically, socially, and spiritually.
• Published “Comparative Effectiveness of Five Language Laboratory Methods in Relation to Visuals” in the International Review of Applied Linguistics in 1974.
• Presented paper, “The Heart of God,” to the Asia Pacific Theological Associate in 2002.
• Pioneered and pastored the International Christian Assembly in the center of Tokyo.
