Biography
Coloratura soprano Shudong Luo Braamse, a native of China, is an experienced performer and voice teacher. Dr. Braamse holds masters and DMA degrees in voice performance from Michigan State University. The song she recorded, "I Wish I Were a Little Light Boat," composed by Huai Hua, has been popular in Singapore. She has premiered several soprano pieces by Dr. Gary Nash at the William Grant Still Concert at Michigan State University, and she has also performed in Italy, Spain, China, and other parts of North America. Her operatic roles include Lucy in The Telephone, Sally in Thomas And Sally, and Josephine in HMS Pinafore.

During her summers, Dr. Braamse often tours in China to give performances and to conduct masters classes. She also attends voice masters classes in Europe and North America—such as those conducted by Richard Miller, Daniel Ferro, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Frederica von Stade, Warren Jones, Elly Ameling, Sherrill Milnes, Sylvia McNair, and Dawn Upshaw. Dr. Braamse has been described in glowing terms by critic Carol Cohan of The Villages Daily Sun (Lake County, Fla.). “Shudong,” wrote Cohan, “has a powerful upper register. Her range is fluid and true. It flows from top to bottom effortlessly.” She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and of the College Music Society.

Dr. Braamse has also translated Complete Preparation: A Guide to Auditioning for Opera, written by Joan Dornemann, available through People’s Music Publishing House in Beijing, China.  At Southeastern, Dr. Braamse teaches voice studio and vocal literature.
