Biography
Tim Kirk brings a passion for literature and over a decade of teaching experience to the Southeastern classroom. After being seduced by literature late in college, he became a high school English teacher in urban Dallas, then moved up to the postsecondary level, taking a position at Baptist Bible College of Pennsylvania. There, he was responsible for expanding and deepening the English course offerings, so he wrote, planned, and taught many courses from scratch, including Honors Composition, American Literature, and Advanced Grammar.

After leaving Baptist Bible College for a brief sojourn in the business world, Kirk accepted a full-time position at Southeastern in 2006, giving him the opportunity to teach again the literature that he loves in the context of his faith. Kirk has a particular interest in nineteenth century American literature, especially the thought of Nathaniel Hawthorne and his relationship to his contemporaries. Following his interest in Hawthorne and related issues and authors, Kirk is pursuing his PhD from the University of South Florida. He counts his job at Southeastern as a blessing, a testimony of God's grace, and he views his co-workers and students as trophies of God's grace.

Kirk teaches the following courses: English Composition I & II, Introduction to Literature, Modern Christian Writers, World Literature, American Literature, African American Literature, and Native American Literature. Alongside Hawthorne, his areas of research and interest are Kant and German idealism, transcendentalism, American Puritanism, the enlightenment, American deism, and nineteenth century American reform movements.
