Biography
Dr. Martin Ratcliffe left his homeland of Zimbabwe in January, 1984, to follow God’s calling to America, and that calling has led him to become part of the family in Southeastern’s College of Education. Dr. Ratcliffe has taught in public schools in Zimbabwe and Florida, serving as a head administrator in Zimbabwe and in a number of Christian schools in the U.S. Prior to coming to Southeastern University, he was an Assistant Education Professor at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. He has always had a passion to see students transformed by the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit into servant leaders who impact their world for Christ, students who can “prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Rom. 12:2).

Dr. Ratcliffe also desires to share his doctoral research with educators at all levels—from future teachers to current administrators—to help them increase their effectiveness in using research-based educational strategies to effect change in student academics. Ultimately, he desires to see schools embrace the education of the “whole” child—cognitively, affectively, physically, socially, and spiritually (CAPSS)—and therefore return to a bibliocentric education as epitomized in Luke 2:52.

Dr. Ratcliffe has also been the director of a crisis pregnancy and counseling center, and he is an occasional contributing writer/editor for the Times Square Church newsletter. He wrote a weekly newspaper column for a number of years and pioneered workbooks for leading national and international Christian authors.

Dr. Ratcliffe believes that a clear biblical philosophy of life and education will enable students to fulfill Isaiah 40:31, waiting on the Lord, renewing their strength, and "flying like eagles."

Dr. Ratcliffe teaches the following classes, among others, at Southeastern: Introduction to Education, The Child: Development Young Child 0-11, and Educational Leadership Research. His research interests include helping schools improve academically by improving their Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) scores.
