Biography
Adding to the extensive range of Southeastern’s Department of Communication, Dave DeBorde joins the faculty as an award-winning stage director and filmmaker whose work as a producer has screened at over 50 film festivals, including international ones, and has garnered over 27 major awards. His film experience is long and varied, but the highlights include a film project called Potluck: three short, yet poignant films now in distribution for the Christian media market via sermonspice.com. One of the films, “Success Story, part I,” was selected for competition at Cannes, the world’s most prestigious film festival. “Success” was well-received and has elevated DeBorde to higher visibility in cinema and stage circles. DeBorde earned his stripes as one of the producers of “The Least of These.” That remarkable 35mm short won numerous awards, including a Crystal Heart from the Heartland Film Festival and a CINE Special Jury Award.

Before coming back to Southeastern, his alma mater, DeBorde worked for three years as the Director of Marketing and Public Relations for a company in Tampa, Florida, and he also taught at both the secondary and college levels, working at Lakeland High School, Rochelle School of the Arts, George Jenkins High School, and Florida Southern University.  DeBorde truly enjoys helping students develop into all that God has for them professionally and otherwise, and he believes that God wants Christians to affect culture rather than complain about culture. Storytellers, he says, will always define the culture and the way we think about the past.  The medium—which is film in this generation—may change, but the importance of storytellers will not change.

As a way to help tell the right stories to this generation, Dave also works on an ongoing basis with Campus Crusade for Christ and its film initiatives such as the Global Short Film Network, and he participates in the Biblical Essentials Film project. In his own films, DeBorde works to set a tone that is both funny and poignant, bringing down the walls that might keep a modern audience from receiving films positively.

DeBorde teaches Southeastern’s film classes, some public relations classes, and Acting II. He will continue to make the most of his “storytelling” opportunities, so he always has several projects in the works.
