Biography
Before retiring from business and coming to Southeastern, Donald Sarbacker served as a First Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager for Smith Barney. He was also a financial planning specialist for the firm and a member of many of the firm’s performance councils and clubs. Prior to Smith Barney, he accumulated two million miles of air travel while working as a consultant to banks all over the world. Since 1992, he has served as an adjunct professor for Hillsborough Community College, where he was nominated and had his name included in the “Who’s Who Among American Teachers” publication. Sarbacker’s article “Corporate Governance: Fact or Fiction?” was chosen for publication by the Worldwide Association of Case Research Analysis International Meetings.

As a Distinguished Toastmaster, Sarbacker competed in the International Toastmaster’s Worldwide Speech Contest, finishing second in the world among 50,000 toastmasters. He subsequently was inducted into the International Toastmaster’s Hall of Fame. Sarbacker has used his gift and passion for communication for many years to serve the community, teaching the underprivileged how to speak and communicate and working with charitable organizations. His award-winning speech “Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand” has been published and recorded and serves as an example of his philanthropic philosophy. For his efforts, Sarbacker was awarded the “Somebody Cares Tampa Bay’s Man of the Year Award” in 2000.

Professor Sarbacker teaches the following classes: Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, International Financial Management, International Marketing, International Business, Principles of Management, Personal Finance, and Entrepreneurship. His research interests are in international investment instruments such as commodities, derivatives, and foreign exchange spot/forward options and in the continued expansion of international off-shore banking operations and the subsequent consolidation of the major banks in the international marketplace.
