TRAINING FOR ETERNITY
Whether you end up coaching professional athletes or corporate executives trying to tame long-neglected waistlines, you’ll be better equipped with an education in sport and recreation management from Southeastern. At Southeastern, we believe as the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, that “physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”

Professional sports are plagued by scandals rooted in sinful behavior. Meanwhile, Americans are suffering from obesity and other maladies spawned by overindulgence and laziness. Our culture desperately needs a mindset and lifestyle realigned with the Biblical principles of humility, integrity, self-discipline and moderation. The world of modern sports and recreation needs the salt that you, as a person with a passion for Christ as well as for sports, can provide.

As a sport and recreation management major at Southeastern, you can develop the know-how to run sports and recreational programs that contribute to the physical, mental and social well-being of individuals and entire communities.

LAYING THE GROUNDWORK
Southeastern’s sport and recreation management program begins with our Christ-centered liberal arts (general education) core curriculum, where you develop an understanding and appreciation of God and His creation, human creativity and reason, and our place of responsibility as stewards in the world God has made. As you forge links between what you’ve learned in the core and the more specialized courses in your major, our hope is that you also begin to relate all that you learn to your faith and life.

Within the sport and recreation management major itself, you will first acquire tools to successfully run an organization through core business courses in accounting, finance, management and other classes. After you master these fundamentals, you will gain a theoretical and practical base of knowledge in sport and recreation management, including managing facilities, program planning, marketing and administration, legal and ethical issues, and sport psychology. Southeastern also will give you a jump on your career; as part of your studies you must complete an internship in an area of sport and recreation management. And there’s no better place to intern than here in central Florida, home to professional teams, baseball spring-training camps and recreational hotspots.

WHAT'S NEXT?
