LIGHTING THE WAY
Helping people is central to the Christian ethos. That’s what our Savior did when he walked the earth. That’s what he’s doing now. As a Christian counselor, psychologist, or case manager, you can help people understand the puzzle of human behavior and light the way to mental, emotional and spiritual health.

Southeastern’s psychology major will equip you with foundational tools and knowledge to counsel people in the spirit of Christ. We’ll teach you to study psychological theories through the lens of your faith. As a psychology student you will realize that theories about human behavior can help us see that we have physical, mental and emotional needs that require conscientious stewardship.

FROM THEORIES TO PRACTICE
Southeastern’s psychology program begins with our Christ-centered liberal arts (general education) core curriculum, where you develop an understanding and appreciation of God and His creation, human creativity and reason, and our place of responsibility as stewards in the world God has made. As you forge links between what you’ve learned in the core and the more specialized courses in your major, our hope is that you also begin to relate all that you learn to your life and your faith.

Within the psychology program itself, you’ll learn different theories to explain normal human behavior, behavior that’s not accepted by society, and behavior of people as they grow from infants to mature stages of adulthood. You’ll also learn how to design sound experiments to help you discover why people do what they do.

THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE
In addition to taking these psychology courses, you can opt to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology or a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. The Bachelor of Science program will prepare you to become a counselor through internships that give you practical experience in the field.

THE BACHELOR OF ARTS
The Bachelor of Arts enables you to study subjects outside of psychology and includes a foreign language requirement. The Bachelor of Arts is designed for students who plan to enter graduate school for psychology, ministry, law, and other fields.

WHAT'S NEXT
After you graduate from Southeastern with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, you are equipped to serve as a counselor or case manager for social service and mental health agencies, churches, rape crisis centers, HIV-AIDS awareness groups, schools, and other organizations that help people.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, you are prepared to enter graduate school and be successful in programs in psychology, counseling, social work, law, medicine, ministry, and other fields.
