DEVELOPING YOUR GIFT
Can’t shake it, can you? You start humming a riff you heard somewhere. Before you know it, you’ve created a new song, complete with an intro, bridge and refrain. Or if there’s a lull in activity, do you begin air-fingering your instrument and tapping your foot to keep the beat?

If you have this God-given music bug—the musical DNA of the harp-playing and psalm-writing shepherd boy-turned-king: David—you should major in music at Southeastern. Our music professors have studied at top programs and conservatories in the country, enabling them to offer you superb instruction in piano, voice and instrumental performance. We perform major shows each year, including operas, musicals and concerts. But most importantly, we offer you strong musical training within a Christian environment that’s free from the cut-throat competition in secular schools and rampant immorality in the music world. Instead of being drained by the spirit of this world, come let the Holy Spirit fill you—and your music—at Southeastern.

A CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AND A MUSIC EDUCATION
Our Bachelor of Art degree in music begins with our Christ-centered liberal arts (general education) core curriculum, where you develop an understanding and appreciation of God and His creation, human creativity and reason, and our place of responsibility as stewards in the world He has made. As you forge links between what you’ve learned in the core and the more specialized courses in your major, our hope is that you also begin to relate all that you learn to your life.

Within the music major itself you’ll take core courses that’ll form your foundation as a musician: theory, music history, ear training, lessons and piano. You’ll also participate in ensembles—the context in which all musicians must perform to fully be a musician. Our Bachelor of Arts in music then allows you to take elective courses that fit your interests or ambitions within the music field. For example, students can study jazz or music technology through our classes in these specialties. Because the Bachelor of Arts in music requires fewer music courses than other music degrees at Southeastern, this program best serves students who want to combine their passion for music with other areas of study.

PROFESSORS & PERFORMERS
Our music professors have trained at top conservatories, performed abroad, and played in a myriad of settings—from concert halls to Disney World. They vigorously and compassionately pour their lives and expertise into teaching Southeastern students. Faculty members also pursue advanced degrees, write, and regularly attend conferences in order to stay fresh in the field–so you’re assured that what you learn will be relevant on stage and in studios. Most importantly, our professors are practicing, committed Christians who offer you personal and spiritual guidance along with academic and musical instruction.

WHAT’S NEXT?
The Bachelor of Arts in Music enables students to study music while pursuing another academic or professional interest. Music majors may take many elective courses in music technology to pursue a career in that field, or they may combine music with a business or communication degree to pursue a career in music promotion or another profession in the music industry.
