MUSIC & MINISTRY
There’s conducting, arranging, praying, and coaching. Planning, playing, programming, and budgeting. Are you musical, Spirit-filled, graceful and humble? How about patient, compassionate, diplomatic, and wise?

While music ministry demands highly developed skills in music, it also requires a heart groomed to serve—to minister to both those who perform in church as well as to worshipers and visitors in the audience. Let Southeastern’s faculty prepare you for both aspects of music ministry. Our professors have studied at top programs and conservatories in the country, enabling them to offer you superb instruction in piano, voice and instrumental performance. At Southeastern, you’ll also gain knowledge and insight to lead people with compassion and execute the administrative dimensions of your ministry.

A MUSIC EDUCATION
Southeastern’s church music program begins with our Christ-centered liberal arts (general education) core curriculum, where you develop an understanding and appreciation of God and His creation, human creativity and reason, and our place of responsibility as stewards in the world God has made. As you forge links between what you’ve learned in the core and the more specialized courses in your major, our hope is that you also begin to relate all that you learn to your life.

Within the church music major itself you’ll take core courses that’ll first form your foundation as a musician: theory, music history, ear training, lessons and piano. You’ll also participate in ensembles—the context in which all musicians must perform to fully be a musician. Church music majors then take courses and labs that teach worship leading—of small and large groups—audio and production technology, music technology, composition and arranging, choral repertoire and other subjects and skills crucial to music ministry. In addition to an expertise in music, majors also develop the ability to plan, program, manage and evaluate music programs.

PROFESSORS & PERFORMERS
Southeastern professors are consistently involved in church music ministry as well as musical performance in the community. All faculty are active performers around the state of Florida. Faculty accomplishments include: lead roles in operas and oratorios, vocal performances for commercial entertainment corporations, composition and production of nationally recognized CDs, principal seated performers in orchestras and chamber orchestras, nationally recognized clinicians, master class instructors, teachers at the elementary, secondary, and university level, and adjudicators at state and private contests for instrumental and vocal fine arts festivals.

WHAT’S NEXT?
Southeastern’s church music graduates serve as music directors or on staff at large and small churches from Canada to Florida. They also have entered graduate music programs at Georgia State, Oklahoma State, Lee and Florida State universities.
